favourite oldies? well mine's an endless list really, but a few off the top of my head (and for a change, not the usual rock or metal) would have to be:

Dionne Warwick - Whisper in the Dark

    Steve Winwood - Higher Love

Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights

Quincy Jones feat. Patti Austin - Betcha' Wouldn't Hurt Me

Quincy Jones - Ai No Corrida

Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al

Sade - Never as Good as the First Time

Alexander O'Neal - If You Were Here Tonight

Hall & Oates - Kiss on My List

Earth, Wind & Fire - Fantasy

i'm in sort of a Beatles mood, so Strawberry Fields Forever and Across The Universe

anything before 2006 is pretty broad. i guess it all depends on my mood. if i wanna just sorta sit and think, then the songs above, if i wanna jam, then Loser by Beck, if i'm in a bluesy mood, then House Of The Rising Sun. so many options

and also, you shouldn't be so judgemental of recent music. I can name songs released just last week that would amaze you on how good they actually are.

Touch Too Much, Back in Black, Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap - AC/DC

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

La Mer - Can't remember French guy's name

Don't Stop Me Now, We are the Champions, One Vision - Queen

Really, I can go on for days!
