Do Mac computers get viruses?
My computer runs slow after I work in iMovie for a while. I've never heard of macs getting viruses but I suppose it's possible. I'm also wondering if maybe I just need an upgrade in RAM. How would I find out how much ram my computer has, and how much would it cost to upgrade? I'm not a do-it-yourself type of person, so I would need to know what a repair shop would charge. Thanks.

1. MACs are immune from Windows-based viruses. After all, it's running OS X, not Windows.
2. A MAC can be infected with a virus that is written for OS X. Therefore, MACs are NOT immune from unix/linux-based viruses.
3. MACs can get viruses, period. If still in denial, see: 1. and 2. Then see here: http://www.switched.com/2009/09/01/apple-quietly-a...

They can, however viruses are designed by people and since before the last 8 years the Microsoft program was really the only program used so many of the viruses out there are designed for Microsoft and therefor cannot infect your computer. Since Macs are becoming more common more and more viruses are being created for the macs but are still less in number in comparison.

Ok if anyone tells you MAC's don't get viruses than they need to commit suicide... because they can... just not as easly and often... BUT THEY CAN! and ima probably get some thumbs down from that... because mac users refuse to hear the truth.... and if your running a laptop, when a laptop gets hot I've noticed the speed slows down so make sure your keeping it cool if your running a desktop make sure you air out the dust because again over heating can cause slowness if your MAC does have a virus than I wouldn't know how to get it out because macs are super un-user friendly...(personal experience with that) find some mac ant-virus software? I know theirs some out there...

All computers are subject to virus invasion. To find out your upgrade capability go to website and type in yor specific model and then look at the specs.
The bench charge of most reputable techs starts @ about $35. If your unit is still under warranty, you cannot upgrade unless you go to an official apple tech and then you are restricted to only genuine apple parts which can become rather expensive.

Yes, Mac's can get viruses. They aren't as predominant as Windows viruses, but are becoming more common.

You can see how much RAM you have by picking About This Mac from the Apple menu. How much it would cost to upgrade would depend on how much you were upgrading from and to and any local variations in cost.
