Is it cheaper to build your own computer rather then buying one?
Right now I have a Dell Pentium 4 (3.4ghz), Nvidia 6800 (320mhz core), 512mb ram DDR2 and I was looking at buying a new Dell but instead just upgraded my computer to 2GB ram for 30$ and then upgraded to a Nvidia 8400gs (520mhz core clock) for another 30$ and was shocked at price drop on computer parts so is it cheaper just to build a computer buying every part from www.newegg.com or is it cheaper buying one threw dell, hp etc.. because I assume they get there parts much cheaper then your average joe would

That question depends on what the use of the ECP is for.
ECP is Electronic Computing Device, that is what they were called before the term PC came in.
So if you want a Form Factor Computing Device, IBM based , word processing and simple tasks, often the factory built is less.
If you are or want a Media/Gaming box, I would build my own, I have the cases, I have all the bays, fans and whatnot.
Mobo with an Atholon, done, $250.
DDR3 x 5g, done $300
Then I would have a DVD-RW, CD-RW, three HDDs, (each over 500g) , I have an Alienware Case , two HP cases and an eMachine case, so yes, I would come out cheaper on the DIY because I know how to. if I got the,
ZOTAC FUSION350-A-E AMD E-350 APU for $144 USD, I would be set, I do not need it, I have three new Mobos next to me, but I am a geek that builds computers that last five years or more.
I run *nix or BSD , I have been on those OSs for ten years now.
Is good to be free.

In short, yes buying and assmbling your own computer is 99% cheaper, and more awesome. You gain experience of building a PC and also you can choose any parts you want.
