There is absolutely no use for colored toilet paper, seeing as it's job is to wipe the nasties from your private parts and is then instantly discarded. (or I HOPE so...) As someone mentioned before, allergic reactions to dyes could be quite unpleasant, considering the area. The only thing I could see one using colored toilet paper for is decorative purposes, but even then, there's no need, because white matches EVERYTHING. Scented wouldn't do much, because the scent doesn't really do anything to your behind, and everything you use and do is flushed away... Lastly, nobody really wants to pay the extra money to have their toilet paper smell good and look nice, especially in this economy. Toilet paper just isn't something that needs to be colorful. But while you're questioning the coloring of bathroom products, think about why toilet water is only ever blue or clear... ;D

It can be bought in colors. For years and years until very recently my grandma always had pink toilet paper in her bathroom. It's just way harder to find colored toilet paper than white because there is very little economic demand for it.

As many of the other folks who have responded have mentioned, at one time they did make more colors than white. One of the other reasons they most likely stopped was due to the possibility of people having allergic reactions to the dyes. When you stop to consider the areas it is used for, I'm sure you'll see why dye-free is a good thing when it comes to TP.

In the past TP has been made in colors, as I recall soft pink was the most popular; scented TP has also been marketed but without much success. Most people simply aren't willing to pay extra for color when plain white works just as well and since TP is in a very competitive market what doesn't get bought doesn't get sold.

Peachy1 is right. The dye contained irritants that caused problems for many people.

Maybe because they thought users would like to decorate it themselves?

Idk about you but I don't think red, yellow, green, or brown toilet paper sounds.... user friendly.
