How long is furnace fuel oil good to use?
I bought a home that sat vacant for at least 4 years---the owner was in a nursing home and always thought he would return to his house. His family used baseboard heaters to keep pipes from freezing in the winter rather than use the furnace. The tank is in the basement----is about 3/4 full----so I would like to use it if it is still good. If not---I am not sure what to do with it---as no one will remove it. I have had the furnace examined and it is in excellent shape.

I'm not sure how long fuel oil will store and still be good. Dip a yard stick in it and hold it in the oil for a few minutes, then take it outside and try to ignite it. It MIGHT help to dump a bottle of fuel stabilizer in the tank. I've just never had fuel oil to sit around for that long!

gas could be your appropriate wager. extremely while alot of it comes from appropriate right here at domicile. the only shrink back, and it is uncomplicated, is the shortcoming of heating btu per gallon. Oil aspects 139,000 btu's per gallon, the place gas aspects one hundred,000 per therm. keep in mind this while sizing your equipment. purchase one that is on the brink of the one hundred,000 btu variety and the equipment won't ought to artwork extremely as annoying. So, i might propose going with the gas furnace and verify with the applying agency for particular deals on changing from oil to gas. you basically might locate a very stable deal.
