What's with all this "Marines are the best" BS?
I was reading an answer to a question earlier, and the guy who answered (J D) said this, "Rangers are slightly above a regular Marine." Can you believe this guy? All he ever posts is his BS Marine propaganda about how the Marine Corps is the greatest thing in the world. With an uncle in the Marine Corps right now, my cousin in the Army, and my father currently in the Air Force, I have to disagree.
To say that a Ranger is only slightly above a regular Marine is basically the same thing as declaring yourself the nation's biggest douche bag. The Rangers are Special Operations, the regular Marines are NOT. A regular Soldier could take a regular Marine. The only reason the Marine Corps boot camp is longer than Army BCT is for water survival. Army and Marine Infantry training is pretty much the same thing.
Also, the Marines are rarely ever the "First to fight." Here's a list of wars in which the Army were the first ones there. I got this list from another question.
WW1 - Army 1st Infantry Division
WW2 - On the ground, Army 32nd Infantry Division (MI and WI Guard) - Buna Campaign
Korea - Army, 24th Infantry Division
Vietnam - Army Special Forces Trainers, although the Marines did send in the first conventional combat units
Grenada and Panama - Army, 82nd Airborne and 75th Rangers
Gulf War 1/Desert Storm - 82nd Airborne
Bosnia - Army1st Armored Division
Kosovo - 82nd Airborne Division
Afghanistan - Army Special Forces followed shortly by the 10th Mountain and 101st Airborne
Iraq - Army 3rd ID
Also, where were the Marines during the largest amphibious invasion to ever take place? The D-Day invasion of the beaches of Normandy was all Army. And when was the last time a large amphibious invasion took place anyway? Who cares if the Marine Corps are amphibious invaders if that's not even something we really do anymore?
It just really makes me angry when uneducated people who know absolutely nothing about the military think that Marines are the best because of what they see in movies, video games, and on TV.
@J
And since JD is a Marine then his opinion that "Marines are Great!!" means absolutely nothing to me. My uncle isn't even retarded enough to claim that Marines are anywhere near the level of a Ranger. All Marines have is their pride, which isn't really going to help them in combat. They've got the worst living conditions and terrible equipment (That does NOT make you better than someone else).
@justlikethat
Why don't you ask JD what a "regular" Marine is. He is the one who made the ridiculous statement.
There is nothing wrong with having pride in your branch of service, but to make ridiculous and stupid claims about the Marines that are absolutely false, just shows your true ignorance. I'm aware that JD is a Marine, I was using his comment as an example of the many others like it that are made by people who don't know the last thing about the military other than what they see in the movies.
This isn't about me being angry at a yahoo answer, it's me being angry at anyone who spouts

I agree completely, but most of it comes from the BS they teach Marines at boot camp. No one would join the Marines if they didn't constantly try to prove how good they were. If people really knew that you could do the same thing, maybe even better, in the Army who would join the Marines? So they have to come up with propoganda. The Marines were almost disbanded earlier in history. The Marines had to literally beg congress not to do it. If you do the research you will find out that the Army is a better branch. But it doesn't matter how much it upsets you and how much information you provide, there will always be people who wont listen to reason and wont believe anything other than "The Marines are the best". The majority of the world, including U.S. citizens, don't know much about our military so they all flock to the branch with the most propagnda and comercials.

Normandy was the largest amphibious invasion. The Army was at Okinawa anyway.

Well if he said "Rangers were slightly better than Marines." Then this makes your question obsolete as obviously he doesn't think Marines are the best at all.
The Marine Corps probably are the greatest thing in the world to him personally that's all, he obviously thinks they are great because that is where his heart lies.
You don't have to be the best trained or most specialist troops in the world to be a great unit, a combination of pride, belonging, great friends and experiences can make you unit or Corps become great for those individuals who are there.
Obviously a whole 200,000 strong Corps is not going to be as well trained or efficient as small dedicated elite or specialist SF units and nobody will ever agree who is better than who.
Most people on yahoo have never even served alongside other units or countries to even make a judgement at all so most soldiers/Marines ignore the trolls and respect one another in the real world.

Because they are. Their function is different than others. The Marine Corps is the best amphibious assault force to support an entire military on this planet. A "regular" Marine is what? There are infantry Marines, intelligence Marines, there are Marine aviators, there are Marine special operators, there are many, many different jobs in the entire Corps. What makes a "regular" Marine, and what makes one better? Is the ability to call in an air strike better or not better than the ability to rope down a helicopter? What is better? A "regular" soldier is what? Define that for me. There are many soldiers in many different divisions and units that serve different purposes. Marines are often the "first to fight" in that conventional warfare is when they are sent in AND politically, the POTUS is allowed to send them in without the authorization of anybody (which he cannot do with other branches).
Where were they? They were taking fricking Iwo Jima. That's where.
You need to stop comparing. Marines ARE the best. And so is the Army. They are all the best at what they do and as an entire military, the US military is the best the world has ever seen. They don't fight each other, they work together. There are reasons for what they do. They are more similar than different, and they fight for the same flag. THAT is what matters.

Every military unit should try to think of themselves as "the best". This elitest attitude spawns a culture of competition amongst the branches and subservice units, and competition always leads to a better product in the end. I think you just hear about the Marines the most because they use it as a tool to attract recruits. Im not sure how they compare to other units but I think everyone can agree that they are some of the best warriors the United States military has to offer.
Oh and I think the Battle for Okinawa was the largest amphibious assault ever. Could be wrong.

Marines are made in boot to be cocky and full of pride thinking we are the baddest mother fawkers on gods green earth. It's been like this since the first Marine walked out of the tun tavern in 1775. As for you getting angry to what you have read on yahoo answers is quite childish if i might say. As for JD, He is a Marine, Maybe not as lean but twice as mean, He is still a United States Marine. He did his time and is extremely proud of the Corps. Who's to say if you weren't in the Army you wouldn't be spouting off your filthy sewer about how great they are? I can guarantee you would be. And stop bashing my Corps. If you're deeply in love with the Army, Then enlist. You will never understand the sense of pride a Marine has until you are one. But hey, Until you make that step, You have absolutely no right bashing a branch of service as a civilian.

"A U.S. marine commander is praising Canadian troops who came to his battalion's assistance after a roadside bombing in southern Afghanistan.
Col. Peter Petronzio told Canadian reporters over the weekend that while his soldiers are doing a "great job" stemming the flow of insurgents in the Helmand River valley, people shouldn't view them as rescuers.
Rather, he said, it's the Canadians who should be recognized for helping his soldiers in April when a marine convoy struck a huge improvised explosive device near Forward Operating Base Wilson in the Zhari district.
"The first time we conducted a mission, we had some pretty horrible things happen, and the Canadians came to our rescue," he said." - http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2008/06/02/afgh...
If the USMC was truly the best, wouldn't that have been vice-versa?

I will have to agree with you. It does piss me off that, this is how a lot of people see the Marine Corps. I will say that most people pay attention the Marines is because of there dress blue uniforms and the name. I would say vietnam was when Marines became popular because there was really not that much commercials and media covering the who Marine spirit and having that deep voice saying, "the few, the proud, the Marines," and to make them seem really bad ***. Most people would say that thinking people joining the Marines for the uniform and peoples thoughts for being badass aren't true. In reality I think that's why.

The marine fan boys will always compare marine infantry to either the Rangers or SEALs to make themselves feel better. No f.u.c.k.i.n.g. way is a infantry marine on the level of a Ranger or SEAL. That old piece of s.h.i.t. JD is always posting his bull s.h.i.t. all over. You'll never find an actual infantry marine say he's on the same level or better than a Ranger or SEAL, because, they know Rangers and SEALs are spec ops. It's just marine cheer leaders that say that, and these cheer leaders will never ever have the balls to actually go to a recruiting station. They'll just stay at home playing call of duty and watching the boot camp videos on youtube.com. Saying to themselves "oh that's easy I can do that".

Maybe because the marines are mostly combat while other military branches are mostly something else. You can't penalize anyone for being proud of the branch they are in
