Powerpoint fails to play embedded music?

My dad's laptop, which is running Office 2007, refuses to play embedded music in certain powerpoint files that his friends send to him via email. I have tried cleaning up his laptop with Tuneup 2011, but those powerpoint files, which I know for certain comes with music (because they play fine on my desktop), still don't make a sound when opened. What is going on?

    PowerPoint 2010 supports many more sound formats than earlier versions. If you used something other than WAV format, it might not play in earlier versions of PowerPoint for Windows (but will be OK on a Mac FWIW).
