Why I can't turn on wireless access on my acer inspire1?

Question

I am not even sure how it got turned off, although I suspect the kids. It just would not go online one day, and after some troubleshooting, I discovered the problem, and the instructions were to use the switch on the front or key feature if available. So I located the switch,(no key that I could find). When I push the switch, an icon with an X in the corner shows for a second, then blinks off. This tells me I am correct, but using the switch is not turning it back on. What am i doing wrong here? Any suggestions?

Well I tried looking for a light, there was no light, but the good news is that is was on again! Thanks for the replies. Although It was nice of you to take the time, telling me my pc is terrible was not encouraging or helpful

You're supposed to hold it for a couple seconds. You should see the light above the switch blink on and off when there is activity...
