Ethernet modem question...?

I currently have a USB Ethernet DSL Modem

GT701/GT701A that I got from Qwest in 2007. I'm moving and the guy transfering my service wanted me to get a "fiber ready" modem.

Is it necessary? Will my older modem work? I think he may have just trying to upsell. Thanks!

You should get the new modem because ISPs will incrementally increase your speeds and the old one may not support the faster speeds.

Necessary only if new location doesn't have copper phone lines, or copper was removed and replaced with fibre.
