How much should we donate to the humane society for two horses?

We plan on getting 2 rescue ponies from a foster home attached to one of the local humane society locations. The "adoption" is free, but they "request" a donation. What would be a good amount? Things to keep in mind are that these ponies might end up with significant medical bills, are unregistered, untrained, and that the horse market right now is extremely depressed.

Update:

Another thing to consider is that we are opening up our property to foster for them as well.

I would give a couple hundred but no more than 400-500. If you have any old horse supplies like old halters and leads, buckets you are no longer using you could donate those along with money too.

All of the things you say are correct, and appropriate, but in order for them to rescue other horses that might be in danger, could you give $50 a piece? You could probably take it off of your taxes as a donation to a charity if you keep the receipt.

I'd give $100 each OR see if you could donate hay or a specific feed instead (Call and see what feed they prefer.) I don't mean to slander humane societies... but you never know where that money goes. If you donate hay or feed, you know it's going to the horses.

    Maybe $100-250 per horse?
