1. probably a 3. not much more than a earlobe piercing
2. Needle. a gun can shatter you ear
3. A stud because stuff can easily get caught on hoops
4. It will be pretty sore for a few days after and still slightly tender for a few weeks
5 for the first 2-3 weeks you cannot swim at all because of the chlorine and you cannot swim int the ocean either

A 1 out of 10 1 being the least i say 1. I got the gun and it did not hurt. It sore for a LONG time. You cant lay on that side for a little while. I got mine done at the mall do not go to claires.Any age as long as you have an adult with you. Right after you get it it feels hot but not burning hot.
