Can someone explain Deuteronomy 22:5?
Im a baptist and i got a new bible. As i was re-highlighting my favorite verses, i came across one i didnt quite get. It says "a woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God." deuteronomy 22:3. So does this mean cross dressing is a sin? Or wearing my boyfriends jacket? Sorry ive only been a christian for about 1 1/5 years. THANKS! :-)

Deuteronomy was written for the early Jewish nation. It was designed to establish sound rules that would make the Jews a distinctive people. Nowadays, these rules are considered outdated, cruel, and unreasonable. They allow men to take several wives. Kill your enemies and take their women for your wives. But if they do not please you then just send them away (no, you cannot sell them). And if your son is disobedient, just stone him to death. (Deuteronomy 21)
Okay lets say a man makes libelous charges against his wife and says she wasn't a virgin when he married her. The people of the town will then stone the woman. However if she can prove that she really was a virgin when they married, then the man will be fined 100 shekels. If a man rapes a virgin he as to marry her. Sounds like a good deal for the man and a very bad deal for the poor victim. (Deuteronomy 22)
Okay now Deuteronomy 22:5. Does it mean you'll go to hell for wearing your boyfriend's jacket? Actually, no. If we take this verse literally then God will be condemning people to hell because of their social customs. All Scotsmen who wear kilts have no hope. All women who wear pants are in deep trouble too. So how do Jews interpret this verse?

Evidently, this verse has more to do with the ancient Jewish tradition of gender separation. The idea was that if a man was dressed as a woman it would allow him to mingle with other women and result in fornication.
Personally, I believe is more interested in our relationship with him more than what clothes we wear.

The evident purpose of this law was to prevent sex abuses and confusion of sexual identity. In appearance and attire, normally a man wants to look like a male and a woman like a female. For an Israelite to act contrary to this internal sense of propriety could have led to homosexuality. Although both men and women then wore robelike garments, there was a difference between the garb of males and that of females. Similarly, in some parts of the earth today, both men and women wear slacks, though the styles differ for each sex. The principle in this text would not rule out a Christian woman’s wearing slacks sometimes, as when working around the house or on a farm. And according to local custom and necessity, slacks may be the desired attire in very cold climates. The Bible counsels women to “adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind.”

I believe that there should be a distinction. I believe this Scripture, that God is very clear that men and women should have a distinction in their styles, fashions, clothing. I think one of the reasons we may have – not the main reason – but it does contribute to the epidemic of homosexuality, is that these lines that delineate the men and the women are being blurred by everybody dressing and cutting their hair and everything’s the same. I think men ought to be men and women ought to be womenThere’s nothing in the Bible that says pants are for men and there’s nothing in the Bible that says robes and dresses are for women. It depends on what part of the world you go to. If you go to Burma, the women wear pants. If you go to Scotland, the men wear skirts. So different cultures have different clothing. The Bible principle is: a woman should not wear a man’s clothing and a man should not wear women’s clothing.
There’s another Bible principle men and women should dress modestly. Christian women and Christian men should not dress in clothing that is revealing and provocative to arouse the opposite sex. Jesus tells us this is a sin – for a man to look on a woman and lust. It would likewise be a sin for a woman to deliberately dress to get a man to look. See what I’m saying? It’s vice-versa, man too. Nowhere does it say that pants are a sin. If I lived back in the days of Jesus, I’d probably wear a robe. If Jesus lived today He’d wear pants.
Happy Sabbath:-)

Yes it is true that God will Judge us in all things we do. A lot of churches say that only the New Testament matters now but we are told to study the scriptures daily to show ourselves approved unto the Lord. It was written a hundred years before they put the New Testament together, which means that they studied the Old Testament only to find salvation. All of those things are sin and if someone tells you different than they go against the Word of God.

Just like we have guys today that like to dress in women's clothing or in a feminine manner and women who like to dress like men and look masculine, God told the Israelites not to do as the pagans do. Many Christians use this verse to say women should not wear slacks because it looks masculine. I don't look masculine in my slacks so there is a distinction between male and female, which is the whole point of this rule. Can you say legalism? Since fashion change over time, we need to use our common sense as well.

The Earth is made up of multiple layers (consisting of the middle) that radiate outwards at different depths and sizes. the exterior of the Earth is the layer referred to as the crust, and the crust is divided into many segments referred to as plates. those plates are consistently in action, however they flow so slowly that any important replace in the plates will in basic terms be observed after hundreds of years. each now and then the flow of one plate over yet another builds up power, and that's released on the ingredient the place the plates meet, referred to as the fault line. This launch of power is the inspiration for an earthquake. power is additionally released in different techniques, including whilst a volcano erupts with sufficient tension. artifical explosions could additionally launch sufficient power to reason an earthquake in the event that they're stable sufficient. regardless of the catalyst is for a significant launch of power in or against the Earth's crust, that's what triggers earthquakes to take place. notice: there are Christians who actually have a strategies. a minimum of a few individuals do.

all of God's commands are aimed at the heart
because He wants us to follow His original design for us
His rules are for our own well being (like the rules of any good parent)
I think this verse is a warning to those who
try to re-create themselves to be something they're not
God doesn't make mistakes-
if your a man- be a man for God
if your a woman- be a woman for God
I think He wants us to be content and grateful
for what He has made us to be-
not try to change what He's done as if He got it wrong
just my opinion

It is God's law to wear what pertains to the gender you are. Most people don't take heed and make light of these law but believe me that they shall be judged according to their works.
Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Matthew 4: 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Not only will you live in this life if you obey every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord but you will have everlasting life.
Peace in Jesus name.

Yes, this is referring to cross dressing (not borrowing a man's jacket because you are cold).
