Why do people get so bitchy when you insult a band they like?

Because this is the internet and we're all elitists in our own way. If this happened in real life, half the population would be dead. There wouldn't be any drug wars there'd be music wars :P And yes defending a band's honor is fun.

Depends on WHY they insulted them. Did they insult them because I was a fan of that band or they just don't like the music?

Usually, they insult a band if someone they know is a fan, or they offer constructive criticism if they dislike the band (by actually explaining why they dislike the music)

I don't get bitchy, but if someone insults the fanbase, not because of their behaviour but on the basis of them liking the band, yeah I'm gonna get bitchy.

Reflecting on my own experience, I got upset and unreasonable when people insulted my favourite bands because I was immature. (To elaborate, I had yet missed subtleties in attitude and understanding.) You can make the judgement that that made me "bitchy" if you want, but I would say that is also symptomatic of immaturity.

In other words, the lesson that we can just enjoy our music and let others enjoy theirs is useless if we don't follow through and also internalize lessons about how to treat others when they're being as immature as we once were.

Because my favorite band is comprised of saints and they can do no wrong. They are perfect in every conceivable way. Each of them is a perfect human being and should not be insulted by mere mortals.

Because they're obsessed, and act all crazy for it. I knew this girl one time who was naturally bitchy, but once I insulted Lil' Romeo, she went insane.

Because they love them, and feel threatened when someone insults that band.

Because its what they like?

It isnt very accepting to them xD

hearing someone bash their favorite band or just plain not like it.

Because people with bad taste like to play pretend.
