how to get involved with Habitat for Humanity?

A couple of friends and I are trying to look into going abroad to build houses for the needy (yes we have previous experience in construction/labor intensive jobs) but we do not know the whole routine involved with getting involved. Basically what we want to know is how much money are we going to need to save up in order to go to these destinations. And so you don't ask we do want to help people plus get a little vacation from America

You will need a few thousand dollars - you have to pay for your travel, your accommodations, and fees that cover the staff time to supervise you, create things for you to do that don't take away local jobs, etc.

The Habitat For Humanity web site provides more details.

Labor and construction materials can be cheap, depending on the country. How much money are you going to need in order to go to these destinations ... it all depends. Are you willing to help farmers who are so poor that their roof is falling off? Helping them is wise since they have the means to support themselves. A farmer's house can cost $6,000. It all depends on the country. You can make the same house for $1,500 in the middle of a jungle, but try to remember that people in the country are always comparing what they have to those in the city.

Source(s): I have a license to bring farm workers to USA. Suitable housing for farmers is very important to help people who live in farms. Some are very happy with simple houses, according OSHA.
