IRS Denying First Time Homebuyers Credit Even Though I Purchased in 2009.?
I closed on my condo on March 17, 2009; now the IRS is saying I bought it before April 9, 2008. This is blatantly wrong. Is it just as easy to send them all the paperwork and get this mess straightened out?
I did my 2008 taxes online, and amended them for the credit, so handwriting shouldn't be an issue.

All i understand is that that is actual unacceptable and could maximum in a distinctive way exchange the way I pay my taxes during the 300 and sixty 5 days. As a stable American I by no means minded paying greater via out the 300 and sixty 5 days. I figured that the further money I pay does no longer harm me and the government could in basic terms refund me any greater suitable that I overpaid. nicely this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days I even have discovered my lesson. the government will possibly no longer relish the further money I lend them pastime loose via out the 300 and sixty 5 days, yet i myself do choose my money that I overpay.

2008 Tax Return
Q.Can I still amend my 2008 tax return for a home purchased in 2009?
A. If you purchased a home in 2009, you can use the December 2009 revision of Form 5405, First-Time Homebuyer Credit and Repayment of the Credit, along with Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, to amend your 2008 tax return. This means you have the option of claiming the credit on either a 2009 return or an amended 2008 return. Keep in mind, however, that it is currently taking longer than normal — about 12 to 16 weeks — to process 2008 amended returns. Thus, you’ll likely get your refund sooner if you claim the credit on your 2009 return.

Look through the paperwork and make sure that the numbers are clear and easy to read. Maybe they are reading 2009 as March 2008 on something.

Bundle up all your paperwork and contact the TAXPAYER ADVOCATE'S office in your state of residence. Your problem over the first time buyers credit seems to crop up quite a bit. Probably the overworked and understaffed worker bees are not up to their usual level of competence and it takes the TAXPAYER ADVOCATE to put all the ducks in a lineup that can be comprehended.

your statements of purchase should prove the date you bought the house, if you did not supply IRS will all the documents to support your purchase, of course they will refuse it
