My dog ate a whole onion just now...?
I heard onions are very bad for dogs. The dog is a chocolate lab and weighs 70 lbs. Should I take her to the animal clinic?
this is serious! don't post dumb answers please!
Sorry for the wait, everyone. My dog is 100% fine. I called the vet and they said that if she had diarrhea or was vomiting then I should bring her in. Well, since my dog gobbled the onion down in such HUGE chunks (as I observed from her stool), hardly any of the onion was digested. She's fine. Thanks for the concern.

Sad Man; That is just plain rude. Animals are a lot of peoples baby's. You need someone to beat the **** out of you for that. I have 4 dogs and 3 cats..and if ANYONE told me that I would knock them out. That is considerd animal abuse. And to the question, I'd take him to the vet asap.

Onions can cause a form of hemolytic anemia called Heinz body anemia, a condition that causes the destruction of red blood cells. Kidney damage may follow.

Pets affected by onion toxicity will develop haemolytic anaemia, where the pet’s red blood cells burst while circulating in its body.
