Trying to become 18D, Special Forces Line Medic?
I go up to MEPS in two days to sign my contract, my MOS is 68W(92 ASVAB, 124GT). I wanted option 40 but decided it was more important to get in now before the army starts "trimming the fat". I think I have a chance of getting the counselor to get me the option 40 though. My dream is to join Special Forces as a 18D Line Medic but since i'm only 19 I have to be in the military to get around the 21 and up SF rule. Is there any way if I get the option 40 and make it through medic training and ranger school I can just drop my contract and join SF?

You have a poor understanding of the qualifications of an 18D or perhaps I'm not understanding your question? As a 68W you will have a good background so that the 18D medical portion won't be too difficult for you. By no means will you have the same skill set as an 18D. And the Army enlisted you as a 68W and already has a slot reserved for you in a unit. We expect you to fill that position for sometime before you set your sights on higher goals.
Get the option 40, get to your unit and earn a Ranger Tab. About the time you make SGT you will be a superb candidate for SFAS and as a former 68W with experience a natural for 18D. Good luck!

Welcome to the military & it's red tape. I'd suggest you volunteer for RIP when the Ranger recruiters come around. If not google 75th infantry recruiting/ask your recruiter before you go to MEPS. Be sure you are signing up for the MOS they require. See if you enjoy the Ranger Battalion before running off to SFAS. The 18D course is no joke, having a Ranger Medic background would better prepare you. Work hard to get through the training in the immediate future, JSOMC is a ways off.

See in case you savor the Ranger Battalion in the past working off to SFAS. The 18D direction is not any humorous tale, having a Ranger Medic history might extra useful prepare you. artwork annoying to get in the process the learning in the instant destiny, JSOMC is a techniques off.
