How did the republican party stop being about fiscal responsibility and what is their future?
Granted they were always in favor of defense spending, and they still claim to want to reduce entitlements, but they really do not. At least not the ones that matter most in reducing government spending. Social security and medicare. Instead they focus on the privileges congressmen get or how Biden is charging the secret service rent. Things I think almost everyone is in favor of reducing or even ending, but they amount to so little when we are looking at trillions of dollars. And now they live in this imaginary world where billionaires have been creating more and more jobs since they have started paying less in taxes and will flee the world's largest market if any tax loopholes are closed.
I recognize the need for some social programs, but generally favor smaller government. I am not sure the GOP feels the same way anymore. And with the popularity of Bauchmann and encouragement for Perry to throw his hat into the ring, I am concerned what issues the party will focus on should one of these wackos gain nomination as a presidential candidate.

The bulk of republicans currently are about fiscal responsibility. They lost their way back in the mid nineties. The tea party and the astronomical deficit have required them to rethink their spending habits. Most are for cutting entitlement spending but to do so gives their opposition a lot of ammunition to use against them. how many times have you heard the dems say that the republicans want grandma to be homeless and eat cat food?

I desire the GOP might nominate a truly candidate this time. Bush wasn't my first alternative in 2000; I voted for Pete Wilson in that predominant. McCain must have run at the Democrat aspect. Right now, Herman Cain has my vote if he makes it to the predominant. We are in determined want of any individual who is aware funds and economics, due to the fact that all else is secondary.
