First of all when you see your puppy have the accident, put the leash on right away and then correct your dog. That way you can go right outside. Something else you can do is get the puppy pads or patch and after the accident put your puppy right on that. Crate training is very good because dogs do not like to go potty where they sleep. If you dog is in a crate chances are he will wait to go. It works very well. The reason this method works is because the second you take your dog out of the crate, they go right outside and they really have to go potty so they learn that this is where they need to go. Reward them for being good.

You need a crate, or at least an area, pen, where you can put him if, after you've been outside with him with no result. Take him out, say the word you want to use (I say pee-pee, or pooh - not unsurprisingly eh). If he doesn't go right away, bring him in before he goes into playing around mode. Crate/pen him and leave it for 15-20 minutes and repeat. If you can catch him in the act and pick him straight up, saying NO! and take him outside, he might get the message too. The more times he does it indoors, the longer all this is going to take. When he does go outside - LOADS OF SILLY PRAISE!!! Go nuts. Tell him he's outstandingly clever, treats and bring him in and play with him. When he doesn't go, just pick him up, without speaking, and crate him. And if he goes in his crate/pen, clean it up without saying a word. And feed him in there - dogs won't normally go where they are fed (and in truth, not normally where their bed is, but there are some ...) At this age you need to be taking him out after each nap, after a short play time, after feeding...... roughly every hour. Don't worry, it won't last, but his mistakes are your mistakes, so be firm, and consistent, and he will figure it out - mess indoors makes mum angry, mess outside is wonderful.
