How would I make changes to a friend's web page?

I have just finished learning about html programing and such. A friend asked me to edit some things on their web pages, since the gentleman that was maintaining them is no longer available, and I was wondering how this would be done. Will the script have to be changed and then re-uploaded to the host, or is there some way to access it otherwise?

    If paid hosting, your friend has to give you the account log in information to use FTP program like free FileZilla. Then you can log in to server and download, edit and upload pages. If free hosting, friend has to give you the same account log in info, but you'll have to edit online using the File Manager's editor.

    To make a few minor changes to your friend's site requires being conversant in html, and having the ftp information.

    If you don't have the login codes, there's little that you can do.
