I bought a Humax HDR-Fox-T2 Twin Freeview+HD tuner with recoder and USB playback ...?

However, I also have a Virgin cable service. Can I record cable channels onto my Humax box or I am resigned to recording onto a VCR?

I doubt it very much. Modern records only allow recording from their internal tuners/epgs (older ones would expect you to have an external sat/cable box etc) so unless it has the option of recording from an external source no.

The suggestion to record via RF won't work. Your Fox might have an RF input but this is for digital/freeview - it doesn't know about the old analogue signal your virgin box might output.

Since your cable service must supply an acceptable RF signal for your TV I see no reason at all why the Humax would not work off the same signal. The Humax normally uses an aerial input, so the cable input should be virtually identical. If it weren't the TV would not work on the cable input.
