Does anyone else find the current US Congress backwards?

Let me explain. The senate was originally established to represent individual states and their interests. Where as the house was established as a direct representation of the people. That's why ever state gets exactly 2 representatives in the senate where as house Representatives very by state population.

Do you think its funny that right now the house of Representatives is fighting more for state/corporations rights and the senate is fighting more for civil liberties. Instead of the way it was originally intended?

Update:

Sorry for the typo that should be: "That's why every state gets exactly 2 representatives....."

Update 2:

@ peace through blinding force: I don't understand your statement or question. Please edit.

Update 3:

@ stony1111: Actually it was the state legislatures were originally supposed to elect senators, not the House of Representatives.

I would prefer it to be the way it was originally intended

The Senate was meant to represent the States

The House of Representatives was meant to represent the people within each State

It really is unfortunate(in my opinion) that the role of our Government has changed over the years

Actually, the way it was originally set up was that the House members would elect the Senators instead of a public vote. It might be better that way because then the Senate would be more apt to do what the people (House reps.) thought best instead of the way it is today, with ideology taking precedence.

Without term limits, the Senate becomes the playground of recipients of lobbyists money and ideological party hacks. My Senator , Durbin, as the #2 man in the Senate and with no serious opposition in elections, he sees himself as a national and Democratic party representative and protector of the Obama legacy. The people of the state of Illinois come in at least fourth or lower in his priorities. Even illegal immigrants have a higher priority in his mind then CITIZENS of Illinois.

You are literally 100% certain you cannot cite any way the Senate is promoting civil liberties.

Yes, I agree with you the government is all messed up. Their existence is supposed to be helping us, but instead they are arguing among each other. Sometimes I feel we as the people do not need the government if they chose to be one-sided (rich only).

Actually, the Senate is still fighting for state's interest and the House, for now, is fighting for corporate interest. No one is fighting for civil liberties.

The "Progressive" evolution of our government and policies is clearly REGRESSIVE in terms of growth and prosperity.
