This might be where the term "sell-out" can be applied. For Green Day not to protest this and just roll in the title would be like selling the real punk bands down the river. Sort of like Jethro Tull just sucking up their entry into the hall of fame as a Metal band. But I guess when you make your living by selling music you'll take whatever positive or negative press you can get just to be out there in the press so you can sell out concert venues and cd sales.

BQ: Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics. Here's Wendy talking about posers and playing a song.

BQ2: No friggin' way! I like some of their songs but never really saw them as a punk band from the first time I heard them up to now.

Disagree, maybe POP Punk, but not Punk!

    BQ- Misfits

BQ2- I think they are a good Pop Punk band, I'm always specific about what kind of Punk they are though.

The poll was Who Is The Best Punk Band Of All Time and the readers picked Green Day. The headline here is not misleading. I still buy Rolling Stone every now and then but you can't take anything they do seriously.

    1: Minor Threat.

2: No. My grandma is more punk than that band.

I don't agree but whatever. It doesn't make my head hurt (I only have the one head to hurt.) It makes me chuckle.

BQ: Patti Smith Group (although I don't completely agree with categorizing her as punk so maybe Fugazi)

BQ2: I wouldn't mention them as a great punk band but I suppose my criteria for "great punk band" is different than those who crowned Green Day. My personal punk throne wouldn't consider popularity, album/singles charts or tour revenue.

Disagree. I will admit that I'm a big Green Day fan, but they're pop-punk, not punk. That's one subgenre that should be considered it's own, like metal/metalcore.

BQ: Either Anti-Flag or Agent Orange.

    BQ2: Nope.

Whether I like them or not, they have had a longer career, more albums, bigger fan base and more album sales than all those other punk-flash-in-the-pan-burned out on drugs-punk bands put together.

Having said that, being a punk-flash-in-the-pan-burned out on drugs-punk band is part of what made those old school bands be so great. Which Green Day isn't.

BA: Bad Brains. It don't get any better, to me.

BA2: They deserve more credit than what the mid 30's-40's crowd gives them. Y'all sound like your parents.

    Hey Ponce.

Disagree, of course. I think I read "fan choice", so that gives it away right there. I'm anxious to see what Mucky has to say about this muahaha

    BA- Sex Pistols

BA2- I guess that would depend on how you define "punk"....early Green Day had the short, intense songs, the energy, the fashion. But what they *don't* have is the punk attitude, and to me, that is the crux of punk.

WHAT THE H--Oh wait, it was voted for on a poll.

Now if a critic had picked this...

    BQ: Black Flag

BQ2: NO they are pop-punk maybe not even

at least its from an online poll and not a paid critic.

    BQ: the minutemen

BQ2: leaving their relative greatness/suckiness out of it, i dont think green day is a punk band. kerplunk and dookie you could see how they might be called punk, but insomniac until present day they are just straight up alternative pop.

I definitely agree with this. No matter who you may think is better or whatever; Green Day happens to be the mainstream punk band. Not everyone knows about the Misfits or The Ramones or Sex Pistold.

    BQ: Green Day

BQ2: Yes, they do deserve it. For the same reasons aforementioned.
