It downloaded the patch but not the dlc update with the 2011 season cars and tracks.

The patch did come with the 2011 cars. You have to restart your career and choose 2011 season, and you will then have the 2011 cars to choose from.

Yeah, what Murphy said is correct. You have to restart your 2010 career and switch it over to the 2011 career thus giving you the cars, tracks, schedule, and points system.
