Are reptiles hard to clean up after? And do they smell?

I am considering getting a Bearded Dragon...but I am curious, do they smell like other traditional pets like cats and dogs?

Obviously I would need to clean the cage/tank regularly...

They themselves don't smell, but their poop sure does! I have one, and when she poops, you know it. As soon as you clean it out though, it doesn't smell anymore. They are very easy to clean up after; all you do is scoop it out. You have to get their uneaten food out every night, but other than that, they're pretty easy animals. It's not like you have to walk them every day, of pet them, or hunt out their little "presents." As long as you hold them regularly, they can get pretty "tame."

The other 2 are correct but I want to add that my bearded dragon only poops once a day. once in a blue moon 2. babies poop more. Mine is about a year and half old. I'm not sure if thats just my bearded dragon or not. But I don't think lizards are pooping machines like a lot of animals. So I guess my point is it's pretty easy to deal with, not a lot of cleaning involved.

Also bearded dragons should get baths a few times a week. In warm (not hot, not cold) water up to his/her armpits. Keeps them hydrated AND 90 percent of the time will cause them to poop. I give mine baths every other day, and then just flush the water. Saves me the trouble of having to pick up after her and clean the matt on the bottom of the tank too frequently. Reallll easy clean up.

Good luck with your dragon. They're pretty ideal pets if you ask me.

The lizards themselves do not smell, but there cage will smell a little. I don't think that it is an unpleasant smell, just a different type of smell. Yes, they are fairly easy to clean up after. If you don't want the cage to smell hardly at all, then just scoop the dragons poop out of the cage everyday or every other day. I hope this helps! And you should get a dragon, they are great!!

They themselves do not stink but if you feed him right his poop shouldn't be too bad it will only stink up his tank for about 20 min then it should be gone. They can have extremely smelly poop if you feed him the wrong veggies. I've been feeding my bearded dragon lettuce for the past 3 days because i have run out of collard greens and ever since then his poop would stink up my whole room really bad and would be extremely runny!

But whenever i feed him collards he has solid stink less poop. Surprisingly clean critters. If i were you i would keep a roll of toilet paper in your room and every time he poops wait about 20 min and pick it up and throw it down the toilet cause they like to roam around and you and it doesn't want to run through poop all day. makes it more comfortable for the beardie.

I also use terrarium liner. I have two rolls for each beardie. Everyday I take the poop out of the tank but not the liner. After a month goes by I change to the other liner and thoroughly wash the old one. After a month goes by I repeat the process.
