I need to find out how to find a free Army record on a new employee that I know went AWOL but he says different. Any help, please.

Ask for his DD214 Copy 4. If he doesn't have it, then he was never discharged. If he went AWOL, was caught and then discharged, it would be reflected in his re-enlistment code on that form.

You can get basic military records through the Freedom of Information Act at www.archives.gov. There may be a small charge. The more info you provide, the less searching they have to do and the less the charge will be. I don't know if the records will say if he went AWOL.

I doubt that his DD-214 will say if he ever went AWOL.

Just ask for a copy of his DD214.
