Firstly, I'm listing some general areas that can help spark your creativity :

-- Nature, the great outdoors, the scene from your window, anything & everything around you, ....can tell a wonderful story.

-- You can also try to visualize quotations, lyrics, jokes, quips, literary characters & scenes [from any book you are reading], etc. - give it your own interpretation & impression.

-- Ask "what if....?" questions. eg. What if we had only 4 fingers in each hand? What if the stage curtain does not drop at the right moment? What if a character from Shakespeare met a character from Victor Hugo?.... When you think up answers to some of these Qs, you can get some unique material for your drawings.

-- News items, current events, human interest stories, weather, etc. also offer you a Daily opportunity to draw something.

-- Dreams, fantasies, interpersonal experiences, feelings & emotions, colours, ....

-- Someone recently suggested another great tip : From A to Z, think of a thing starting with each letter every day & draw it. eg. A for apple, apostrophe, apparition,... today ; then stuff with B tomorrow; & so on. Think of more than one thing, that will go together meaningfully, for each letter, & compose your sketch.

-- Similarly with geometric shapes. Choose one [or in combo] & develop some images with it.

-- you could make a 'series' of any one thing / object

-- How about trying to Visualize & draw Emotions / Traits, etc. eg. Courage, Love, Fear, Hate, Perseverance, Peace, Joy, Kindness, Naivety, etc.

-- You could also depict Life stages or Rites of Passage such as Birth, Death, Adulthood, Maturation, Childishness, Teenage years, Mid-life crisis, Old age, Senility, Marriage, Widowhood, becoming a grandparent,....

-- You could think of some "story", incident, issue, quotation, joke, ... & try to depict them through your sketches.

-- You can choose characters from any book, comic, film, poem, etc. that you like & develop them visually. Draw them as you "see" them.

For any or all of the above, you could do a whole Spectrum of emotions, expressions, positive-to-negative, and so on.

Secondly, here are prompts & random ideas for sketching/drawing :

http://www.newscientist.com/imagegalleries -- this site has a weekly (or more frequent) “Picture of the Day”

http://schunnin.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.ht... -- use these “challenges” to create your own versions &/or think up similar challenges for the future.

    http://hubpages.com/hub/1000-Random-Things-For-Ske... -- 1000 random things for sketching

    Thirdly,

http://www.kerismith.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/0... -- I like the idea of making your own paper cuttings with tips & ideas. You can fold & collect them in a jar [like a wish jar] & pick any one randomly & implement the idea. It can be like a never-ending stream of ideas if you keep adding to the jar whatever you find amusing, creative, any idea, website, activity, project, etc. etc.

Hope these keep you creatively engaged for a long time

    Have fun :-))

Staring at nothing will get you nothing. You need to look around at your environment. Hell, watch a little kids show and think about how much cooler the characters would be if you did "this" or "that". I, myself, will stare outside or read comics/manga (yes, I am a geek, shhhh...). Or I just close my eyes and imagine that I am anywhere but where I am.

Another thing you can do is go on Google, image search random words, and then draw the one that speaks to you most. Simple and easy, hope this helps.

Why not try reading novels or mangas; I personally find them to stimulate my creativity. Moreover, while approaching a story, there will always be images popping up in your mind to make sense of whatever you read, thus a good way of getting ideas to "draw".

i like to go outside and draw what i see, or draw a place you want to go to (ex. paris) or have been (ex. a beach?). or you could scribble a random line on the page then try to turn that into a picture. hope this helps, :D

start by contour sketching and grow into sketching. Sketch things around you. Thats how i started. If you dont find anything around you that you can sketch, start by your fingers. Fingers work great You can add detail in as you grow and start becoming more comfortable with the sketching. Work your way into shading. and walaa you'll be a great artist in no time. i cant give you tips about painting, as i suck at painting myself =)

perhaps try and look up interesting pictures on google. Or try and imagine things differently, like what would a refrigerator look like if it was a robot?
