Your Mac should have come with restore CDs that will restore it to factory defaults (this comes on a USB flash drive for the Macbook Air). If you lost them (or bought it used) you can call Apple and see if they'll send you replacements. They may charge you a small fee for it. Otherwise you can use any OS X install DVD (though you'll loose iLife). If you have OS X 10.7 (Lion) it creates a restore partition that can be accessed by holding down the option key when the computer turns on.
