What classics would you recommend?

Please note that I am saying CLASSICS. Nothing too modern. I am 16 years old and I am trying to read more classics. I haven't read many. I have read Jane Eyre and I really enjoyed it. I also read Of Mice and Men over the summer for school, but it did not like it. What classics would you recommend?

Others have already suggested Jane Austen's books and others by the Bronte sisters. Those are good places to start.

    Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery

    Candide by Voltaire

    O. Henry's short stories

Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe

Anne of Green Gables (the series) by L.M. Montgomery

    O Pioneers! by Willa Cather

If you enjoyed Jane Eyre, try something by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma. Books by the other Bronte sisters would be a good choice also. You could also read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. It's the possible story of Bertha Rochester.

I really like Jane Austen books, and Wuthering Heights which was written by the sister of the author of Jane Eyre! :)

    Great Expectations

    The Pit and the Pendulum

    Watership Down

    I personally enjoyed those three

  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury was pretty good...
