  • When is the penalty for not getting Obamacare being lifted?

I just read that a law passed last December will lift the fine from Americans who don't get health insurance. (It was mentioned in this news story: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/why-americans-r...

Does that mean that people who didn't get health insurance in 2017 won't be fined this year when they file their taxes, or that the fine will still apply for 2017 but not 2018?

  • What is with the robot narrators in some YouTube videos?

Search for videos by Halo Baby or Shocking Story Today to see what I mean.

Why do they need to use robot voices for this? I mean, humans still have to write the script, so why can't they read it?

  • What's the term for a newspaper or magazine that specializes more in sensationalism than solid news?

I'm blanking out on the term. It's not gossip rag or scandal sheet, because those focus on such things and don't pretend to be real newspapers.

I'm asking because I want to say that Yahoo! is becoming one of these, with every gruesome story they can find and lots of junk news put up as real - just very low quality stuff. But I can't think of the right phrase!

  • Business names and trademarks?

You can't use a business name that's trademarked, but what if you start a business and later someone else trademarks the name? What are the original business owner's rights?

I get that it would be wise to trademark your business name, but if you're trying to start a business with very little money, you may not have a few hundred to spare for the trademark. So please answer the question asked rather than saying you should just TM the name to begin with.

  • What are people referring to when they mention "root" for ad blockers for Android phones?

I'm looking for a safe ad blocker (one that doesn't mess up other functionality on my Samsung phone. In reading reviews, I keep seeing references to root and no root, but no explanation of what that is. So, what is it and what is good or bad about it?

  • Is there such a thing as a video blocker?

I have an ad blocker, but I want something that stops videos from loading and auto-playing, such as on Yahoo's home page.

I don't want to block all videos. I just don't want them loading or playing unless I select them (as on YouTube).

  • Is there a database creation tool for people who don't know how to create a database?

There are website creation tools and websites that let people put up a website without knowing HTML, CSS and so on.

There are game engines for people to create games without knowing much about programming.

Is there something comparable so I could create a simple relational database without having to do it from scratch? I know SQL is simple, and I once knew it, but I really just want to get a DB up and running.

  • If you had cataract surgery, what was your experience?

How bad were your cataracts before you had the surgery?

    What was the operation like?

How did your eye feel afterward?

Did you have any pain or problems with your vision after the surgery?

How is your near/far vision now compared to before your cataract surgery?

    Thanks!

  • Why would you butter a baking pan if you're going to line it with parchment paper???

I thought you buttered pans so the cakes (or, in this case, the pumpkin bread) doesn't stick. Doesn't lining it with paper do the same thing?

And can I use waxed paper instead?

What happens if I skip the butter?

  • What is the difference between Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh?

Yes, I'm serious. I finally realized that they're two different people. I know, I know. but I don't really follow either one. I guess they got stuck together in the same compartment in my mind, as a right-wing, obnoxious person.

So, are tey both politicians? both right-wing? What are their views, what is each one known for?

  • Why did my chocolate un-melt?

I melted 1 1/2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chunks in a double boiler. They elted just fine. Then the recipe said to add 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract. I did, and my melted chocolate turned into a thick, gluey mass that I can't get to melt again.

What happened? Any way to fix this?

  • Is butter okay to use after it has been at room temperature for a day or so?

This is a stick of butter in an unopened paper (not foil) wrapper. Is it still good, or has it turned rancid or sour or watever?

Please explain why; don't just say Yes or No.

    Thanks!

  • Who is the hottest, sexiest or best-looking (celebrity) man today?

It used to be Brad Pitt, but he's getting old. Has anyone replaced him?

I know Adam Levine was called the sexiest man alive last year, but do women adore him the way the loved Brad Pitt? Surely there's someone better. (Not that he's not cute.)

  • Are they changing Yahoo! Mail to require mobile phone numbers?

When I log in to my primary Yahoo! Mail account, it wants me to change my password and give it my mobile phone number. I'm not going to be giving Yahoo! any phone number, but I'm afraid that one day I suddenly will get locked out of my account.

So today I got an email marked as being from "Web Services" with the subject line "Update your Mail Account Immediately!" I'm guessing it's spam, so I'm not opening it, but I'm afraid that it might be Yahoo! finally enforcing the phone number requirement. But if it was, wouldn't it say it's from Yahoo! ?

Anyone know anything about this, either the email or Yahoo!'s plans to require a mobile number? I've had this account for years in good standing and shouldn't have to provide them with this info to keep using it.

  • Why is Yahoo! making Yahoo! Answers harder and harder to use?

    What are they thinking??

It used to be easy and intuitive to ask and answer questions here.

Now the question form is way over on the right instead of easily accessible in the center. You have to know to click on Details if you want to write anything more than a header.

The input boxes for both question details and answers are small, making it harder to see what you've written.

They are removing information. Asker names are no longer listed; you must hover over the avatar space to see them, and to do that, you must open the question. We can no longer filter on country, and we can't even see the asker's country any more.

Commenting when you choose a best answer now requires you to click on a Comment link if you want to enter a comment, and if you want to see what the chooser wrote, you again have to click to display the comment. Why all the extra clicks?

Now they've even done away with putting questions in reverse chronological order, so you see the same ones from days ago. What's with that? How can people answer in minutes if they can't see recent questions? Not to mention the bottomless scroll, so you can't easily navigate back to a section of questions, the way you could when there were page numbers.

NONE of this is an improvement. What are they doing??

  • Do you use sour cream when making cole slaw, waldorf salad or broccoli salad?

I can never figure out how to make the sauce or dressing for cole slaw (like KFC cole slaw, not the vinegary, sour kind) or waldorf salad or broccoli salad.

When I get these from delis or salad bars or KFC, they all taste sweet and like they have sour cream in them, but when I check online, there isn't any sour cream in any of the recipes. It's always just mayonnaise. I like mayo, but I don't want my broccoli sala to just taste like mayo.

So how do you make your sauce or dressing for it? (And I really, really don't want to taste the sourness of vinegar!)

  • Is there a difference between airstrikes and war?

I keep reading that the US is doing airstrikes against the Islamic militants in ISIS, but that doesn't seem to mean we've declared war with them. How is it different?
