Need info about mobile hotpots?

Update:

I want to buy a mobile hotspot, but I don't want one that has to be tethered to a cell phone. What are my options? Which ones, or which plans, are better? And how long will the gigabytes of data last if I'm interacting with, say, business software online?

For the first time you have to start with a optimum value of data to start the project on experimental basis. After a month you will be able to assess what you need exactly.

You can use your cell phone as hotspot. just turn on your cell phone hotspot and set it up, if you buy a separate hotspot device you should pay monthly fee for its device or its access.
