Why do they need to use robot voices for this? I mean, humans still have to write the script, so why can't they read it?

If they're on a low budget or no budget, they might not have the equipment to record the voiceover (or a quiet place to record in). They might not have a pleasant speaking voice, or might not know anyone who has one.
Having the computer narrate is usually quicker than having a human do it. There's no need to set up the recording equipment (if it's not permanently in place) or book a session with a human narrator. The computer doesn't make mistakes that have to be re-recorded, and its narration doesn't need to be edited to take out the mistakes and alternative takes. Apart from all that, it can usually generate the audio faster than a human can speak it.
