When is the penalty for not getting Obamacare being lifted?
I just read that a law passed last December will lift the fine from Americans who don't get health insurance. (It was mentioned in this news story: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/why-americans-r...
Does that mean that people who didn't get health insurance in 2017 won't be fined this year when they file their taxes, or that the fine will still apply for 2017 but not 2018?

The individual mandate was repealed this year but it does not kick in until January. So you still need insurance when you file your tax return for 2017 this year.

Because that penalty was the only way to get young people to participate in the ACA program. Without that, the program fails, which is what the Trump administration wants. It would be like not requiring all drivers to buy car insurance..insurance systems collapse when everyone does not participate. Thats what insurance is and what makes It work.

I can't say for sure but I do believe that was fine was lifted when the new tax laws were passed.
Those who said that Obama Care isn't a Tax are just liars. If it isn't a tax why was the IRS the enforcement agency?
