Squirrel in my garden, what to do?

A squirrel has moved into my garden area and has found the squash plants. Shall I trap it and relocate it or shall I take my 22 and displace him? My wife says leave him alone but she doesn't want the butternut squash damaged. He has started eating the grapes also and I sure as heck don't want him into the melon patch either.

Now that one squirrel has found your garden, it will not be long before more will follow, this is experience speaking. They were getting more of my tomatoes than I was, so I started trapping them, using tomatoes and bird seed as bait. After approximately 25 squirrels trapped and released a long way from here, the problem is over. I had three traps going and was getting at least one per day for about two weeks. Twice I had one in all three traps. A pile of bird seed on the ground and the trap placed so that they have to go inside and set on the trigger to eat works great. I released them in a very rural area close to a good sized lake. No houses for at least 1/2 mile.

there's a pecan tree and an particularly super o.ok.tree in my backyard. I even have greater squirrels than I ever needed. often times cats will kill them for a meal. the different ingredient squirrels seem to love is the insulation on the telephone wires outdoors. endure in suggestions, squirrels like nuts and corn. you may get a feeder and fill it with corn or you may get dried corn on the cob and positioned it on a feeder that has a spike to hold the cob. (that's some thing you could probable make.)

I agree with Kevin. It works.

I know the squirrels are starving because they can't get many chestnuts anymore. Everything is poisoned. Gotta feel sorry for them.

All of nature (including people) are eating things they never ate before out of desperation because so much food is poisoned.

That includes pet foods in stores.

Animals have instinct and know to try to find other sources of food. Nature is all screwed up by design.

Don't shoot the squirrels. It is not necessary nor is it humane.

It's pretty easy, you can just build a wire fence over your garden area, also include the top. If it doesn't work, then just plant oyur fruits and veggies at a higher place so the squirrel can't climb or reach.

I agree with "I'mJustMe". Harbor Freight has live animal traps for resonable prices. Perhaps your animal control people will come out and set a trap for your unwelcomed guest.

My husband, on the other hand, says use a 22 short in a rifle (it makes less noise). ...men!

Be humane and trap him then relocate him far away from your house. Wish you the best of luck! :)
