Where does soul come from?

I am just responding to Alan Turing: Thank you for posting your answer in a non-condescending manor - if more people,on both sides, followed your lead then serious headway could be made in the atheist / theist debate.

I would hope that anyone asking this question would look for an answer outside of a circular-based religion like Christianity. If you want a scientific hypothesis, many have come to see the concept of a soul as simply the overall personality of a person. The idea that we're hosts to mysterious phantom specimen is ludicrous. I believe a decent theory is that our "soul" comes into existence at a certain point in our brains development when we become cognitively aware of our surroundings, which is in exact opposite of the idea that God gives us our souls at conception (which I do not find plausible).

There is no such thing as a soul. Since humans are self aware and ignorant to the nature of science, ancient man tried to determine why he is and why he is different. So we invented the soul which makes sense if you don't think about it. Hence if God creates souls and most people go to hell then God is filling hell with souls. Why Satan wants souls is mystery because whats the end game? So that's why the bible is fantasy and no more valid than the force in Star Wars.

I have read many versions of what religion believes about the soul. The soul is your spirit. Your spirit never dies just your vehicle. Life is a revolving door and hen you die, your Soul leaves your body and enters into another dimension we cannot see or hear. You can come back in another vehicle as I suspect you will have much competition. If you look at it from a religious point of view, then you will disregard everything I am saying. The fact remains there are many many factual documentations of people coming back. WWII pilot came back in boy and the boy knew every type of plane there was from that era as well as events he could not possibly have known at his age. They even interviewed the pilots sister who was still living and she was convinced it was her brother re-incarnated. Google it or search youtube. Put this in youtube search box ( boy reincarnated wwii pilot). Decide for yourself. Bonechilling...Kids that play drums like John Barnum at 7. Come on really. Yo would have to be really nieve to not believe in reincarnation.

I just ran across this post... After many experiences with religion and living through a period of time doubting religion.... I have come to believe that the "soul" is you, your mind. Once, an organism has evolved to be self aware, then you have a "soul".... Religion and morality is a creation of humanity in order to create civilizations. Morality and ethics have their place in this world, but only when interacting with others... As for what happens after our natural lives are over... I guess we all will find out soon enough! It's up to you to decide how you want to be remembered and how you perceive what will happen after death... I say live life they way it is supposed to be lived, with purpose!

The soul is created by God at the moment of conception.

The soul comes into existence at the same moment the body comes into existence - the moment of conception - spiritual nature combined with biological nature, a complete human being from the first moment of existence.

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The same place the concept of God came from.....the human imagination.

It forms from the components of the brain when they join together and begin functioning as one at 21 weeks.
