What is the best program for burning *.avi files to a DVD?

I have the latest version of NERO and with this it is a hit or miss. Sometimes it will burn, but most I'll get an error about 30 secs from completion; rendering my DVD useless.

I have Windows DVD Maker on my Windows 7 Ulimate x64, and It burns every time, just the ratio is always 4:3, even if I set it to 16:9....doesn't matter I have to zoom in on each movie to make it fit within the screen.

I have conversion programs like AVS, so I can convert to any format...just still have the same problem no matter what.

I've also used DVD authoring programs like Adobe Encore, or Sony Vegas Pro...and both start to burn, then say they cannot burn the .avi format.

My burner is a Lite-on x16 DVD/CD and is fairly new, so I don't think that is the problem because like I said, it is hit and miss with Nero, and burns everytime with WDM, minus screen ratio.

So what's out there...what's the best?
