So I just bought some "sport beans" should I be confident in their performance for tomorrow?

I just bought four of these "sport beans" http://www.sportbeans.com/Default.aspx today out of curiosity mostly. A few cyclists had told me about them at various rides, but I'd never tried them so wanted to see what the hype was about.

I always take my granola bars which work for me on my tough training days, but do you think that for tomorrow's ride I should still take the granolas or should I try my luck with these beans? Anybody tried them before? What do you eat?

BQ: Ever since watching the TDF last year with the infamous chain drop of Schleck's, I've been fearing changing gears while standing up so I always make sure to sit before I shift gears.. Is this necessary or just a rare instance that happened to Andy?

Update:

"they are okay" so you wouldn't recommend them?

Update 2:

Oh, no. Not a race, just a training day of about 55 miles. Tough none the less.

I like to eat Good and Plenty on long rides. They are easy to digest and contain carbs and sugar with a little protein. I think the beans are about the same thing. The best thing for long rides is a lot of carbs the day before. A big plate of pasta helps a lot. If the chain comes off it will usually be when you shift the front chain ring. I never had the chain come of when shifting the rear gears.

You rarely ned anything besides a sport drink for miles that distance. I often do it without breakfast. I have tried the sports beans, but I prefer GU gels. I will take good n Plenty, or my favorite... Bit'o'Honey when I want or think I might want a treat.

    is it a race>?

they seem like they might be about .02% better than just plain candy, and at only 3x the price..

if you are just 'training', why have expensive artificial boosters, even if they don;t work?

Source(s): i'd just have some candy or little debbies and nothing expensive for 'training' wle
