Why do ignorant people go around given thumbs down to answers without any reason?
It is as if they don't even read the answer, compare it to the question. They offer no answers themselves, or comment why an answer is no good. Many answers are helpful and yet they are given thumbs down. Are they just rude, have nothing else to do or don't understand the answer.
As the saying goes there's 10% bad apples in every bushel.
Thanks everyone, all great answers from different view points. It just got to me the other day, I had the only answer and got the thumbs down. I realize that there are thumbs down groupies or whatever.
Thank you everyone.

There is always a reason for actions and behaviors, what is often difficult to discern is the reward.
I would be hesitant to assume ignorance.

I give thumbs ups on almost every question at times, just cause people deserve it. If someone has a smartass remark in their answer, I blow it off. I mean, we ALL have been assholes on here one way or another. We've offended someone. I know many of the reg's have went off on the "PETA" clones that come on here and just talk about how bad fishing is. Yes, that's being a smartass/dick/asshole in one way or another. But if an answer is just a paragraph long of insulting the question asker, it's just ridiculous. That usually gets a thumbs down from me.
The guys who give thumbs down can't be explained by me. There's things that I see people do that I have no idea why they would want to do so, but they do. I guess all people are different. I generally try to be respectful but sometimes I'm an asshole without realizing I'm doing so (yes, it's possible).
Don't let the thumbs down idiots break apart our little community here. There's been enough reg's lost in the past year. What happened to the two fly fishing guys? AIRFLOW and Pheasant Tail? The guy that always said how about fly fishing on the idea, ok? (Okay, f*ck that guy he was annoying). Redheat? And the other numerous guys I can't think of atm..

Thumbs down to the BASSER their is no good reason to be rude unless the question it's self is so rude or crude that it desires no answer at all which would be the best answer to give in that light. If you can not prove a point with out being rude, then your not really proving the point are you. To you the answer mite sound or seem good but to some one in another area the answer is out of line or bursar so they thumbs it not realizing different area the facts change. Narrow minds have narrow responses and rudeness and nasty are never called for when answering a question that is honest and real.

I've been in the YAnswer fishing section since '06.
Your question has been asked by almost every regular that stays here for any length of time.
The best answer I could give you is- People get jealous of others answer's, they disagree with others answer's because they think they know better, idiots actually try to screw the other guy out of a good answer so they can get the points for the Q, Etc.
This forum has many different "issues"- the thumbs down trolls being one of them.
If it's any condolence, I rarely give thumbs down; unless I see something blatantly wrong OR someone acting like a total Jack-@ss.
Don't let it bother you. Answer the best you can, with as much detail as possible, and the "thumbs down brigade" will eventually disappear.
UPDATE: TU's to everyone.

Ole Fisherman's answer gets a thumbs up from me, but I see someone has already given it a thumbs down - which rather proves his point.

I've noticed it happening on my answers a lot. I know, I know, I give smartass answers a lot, but I also prove a point with those smartass, assholish, and mean answers. It's the way I am. You could say in a way that my answers "deserve" the occasional thumb down on an answer like that, but why? Because I'm being rude and proving a point?
Screw that. No, F*CK that.
Us regulars have our own ways of answering questions. I have my trademark asshole answering method, Ole Fisherman has his long get-it-over-with-already-novel answering method, FishSteelhead has his own ways, enufofthisshit has his own, etc. etc. etc. And they ALL work for us. But there's always THOSE that don't like the answers we give, whether they're good answers or not. I don't know what it is, nor do I really care.
These trolls, Thumb Bandits, Thumb Down Brigade, whatever the fack they call themselves... REALLY need to stop with the bullshit... a good answer deserves the green thumb up, a bad answer deserves the red thumb down.
As a side note, it was not I that gave Ole Fisherman a thumb down... I gave him the second thumb up.
EDIT:
And my point exactly.

Why do you have to whine about things that are not life changing. Get a life. And you can thumbs down that.
