  • Tally for the Big Kahuna from me?

I asked one question and Chimp Dancer received the best answer.

  • ATTENTION FISHING SECTION REGULARS: Should we have another "Big Kahuna"?

And for all of you new guys and video game anglers (LOL), the Big Kahuna is a day where we set aside to ask some very intriguing, well-thought out questions that we always wondered about fishing and usually get some great answers. Actually, the majority of questions are just opinion-based but oh hell it's fun while us non-ice anglers are shaking at the thought of wetting a line..

Thoughts? Let's set a date for this to go down if you guys agree on it. All opinions welcomed.

  • What's the weirdest place you've caught a nice fish at?

I've saw some very nice sized Channel Cats (20-inches or so, say 6 or 7lbs) caught in a very highly fished area, next to a dock. Caught regular as well. Was pretty interesting, caught quite a few keeper/nearly keeper Bass as well.

I caught a 15" Carp in an EXTREMELY small creek (width wise, probably 8 or 9' deep but 5' across, very weirdly made) and had another break me off that was larger. Thoughts?

  • Has anyone been fishing?

If so, had any luck? I haven't been since, late October/early November, I'm starting to get "cabin fever"!

  • Any information on the Penn no. 155?

I just purchased a good condition Penn no. 155 for $12 at a flea market this morning. If anyone knows any info on this it will be appreciated. I don't fish SW and I really don't have a need for the reel, but I thought what the hell for $12. If I ever get a SW trip or fish a big river for Flathead's/Blue's I think it would do. Never cast a conventional reel like this before so I don't know how that's going to go. Also, does anyone know about how much the reel is worth? I'm almost positive it's a newer model (they were discontinued in 2004, I'm guessing it's a 2000's model) with just a very small rust spot or two. The clicker is very LOUD. If I don't find a use out of it, I'd love to get a pretty penny out of it on eBay..

  • I need help finding a lure!!?

Okay, so I found a soft plastic bug that I can't identify at all in my tackle box. If I had it with me right now I'd take a picture. Okay, it was about 2" long and looked very much like a hellgrammite/crayfish hybrid sorta bug. It was hollow, brown, and soft-plastic of course. I texas-rigged it with a size 4 hook and it floated (is that a word?), I twitched it a few times and got a nice lil' Green Sunfish. I caught maybe two more Green Sunfish and then it's success wore off. I could see how it could definitely catch a few decent bass as well, in maybe a larger size. Anyone have any idea on what I'm talkin' about? I'll appreciate all answers.

  • What are some good "floating" shallow crankbaits?

Ya know, cranks that when you stop reeling they float back up to the top. Made of balsa. Anyone know any good brands of these? Preferably some that come in a red craw color.

  • Could cork easily be a thing of the past in a few years for major reel manufacturers?

Seeing as most rod companies have opted for EVA or other types of foam to be fitted on even their flagship rod models. Take Shimano for instance, giving a split-grip EVA handle to every single rod in their line-up this year, from the Clarus to the Cumara (which already had one). As we see rod builders straying away from cork more and more, how long do you think cork will be a contributor to the majority of high-end rods?

  • How many pounds of drag is necessary for a bass fishing reel?

The rise of the Revo, with 24lbs of drag pressure, has brought on the new age of heavyweight drags on bass fishing reels, primarily baitcasters. It's not uncommon to see 14 to 18lb+ drags on the newest offerings by Lew's, Quantum, Abu Garcia (of course), and even Ardent (their pitching/flipping model). My question to bass anglers out there (and any other fisherman who wants to chime in), when does necessary turn into superfluous? What would be a comfortable poundage of drag in a bass reel, for you?

  • Trailer hooks on Spinnerbaits?

On a spinnerbait of course. I ordered a few spinnerbaits with trailer hooks, never used them before. What's your take on them?

  • Do you agree that Shimano's reels are downgrading and their rods upgrading?

So there's four new Shimano reels to replace the old models now. A Shimano Curado 200G, Citica 200G, Chronarch 200G and a Chronarch 50G (smaller version). The Curado is now $20 cheaper compared to last year's model, with that it has a plastic drag star and two less bearings. The Citica is $10 higher with no added features that I can see. The Chronarch is pretty much last year's Curado with a different color, for $200. The Chronarch 50 is exactly last year's Curado 50, only in a different color. It just seems ridiculous to me why they'd do that..

On the rod side, however, they did a great job. Every rod is made using the blank of the rod higher than it of last year. So, this year's Compre ($100) is made on the blank of last year's Crucial ($150). The Compre is essentially last year's Crucial with different (lower quality) guides. And for me, I could care less about guides..

Nice move for the rods, but I think I'll hear just a few complaints about the reels. Not use-wise but value wise..

  • New Curado! WOOOOOOOOO!?

Not that I need a new reel, the ones I have right now don't get used as much as they should. But the Curado & Citica "G" 's are out. Retail for the G is $159 ($20 cheaper than the E was at release) but the Citica G is at $129 ($10 higher than the E was). Maybe I'm the only tackle porn enthusiast but there's not many things that turn me on as much as iCast every year.

  • Has anyone saw these reels before? Ardent C400 Collegiate?

I was browsing Cabela's recently and I found this: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Fishing-Ree...

Sadly no Kentucky version but those are SWEET. There's also a Florida version but it's not sold at Cabela's.. Just something that I thought was interesting.

  • Have you ever had any serious injuries while fishing?

I've never had any serious injuries done, but I've been hit by sinkers when someone was casting.

  • Okay, since LimeWire has been officially shutdown...?

I was an avid LimeWire user and it and FrostWire were all I had ever used. I used LimeWire on my laptop, and I preferred much more than FrostWire since it gave me the option to go in and edit my songs (The album they were on, artists name, song title, track number, etc) and when I put songs on my iPod, I like all of the info to be perfect (I know, I'm a freak) and for the album name to be listed so it has a little background of the album when I play my songs. With FrostWire, it doesn't allow me to do this, and I HATE THAT. So what I am wanting to know is, what is something like LimeWire/FrostWire that allows you to edit your song fully? Thanks to all answers.
