Any information on the Penn no. 155?

I just purchased a good condition Penn no. 155 for $12 at a flea market this morning. If anyone knows any info on this it will be appreciated. I don't fish SW and I really don't have a need for the reel, but I thought what the hell for $12. If I ever get a SW trip or fish a big river for Flathead's/Blue's I think it would do. Never cast a conventional reel like this before so I don't know how that's going to go. Also, does anyone know about how much the reel is worth? I'm almost positive it's a newer model (they were discontinued in 2004, I'm guessing it's a 2000's model) with just a very small rust spot or two. The clicker is very LOUD. If I don't find a use out of it, I'd love to get a pretty penny out of it on eBay..

20 bucks is about the most you can expect to get on it.

its a decent reel. aluminum spool? fine for cats. fill it with 20 or 25.

chromed brass spool? get rid of it and put on aluminum. harder to cast with the heavy brass spools.

plastic spool? my preference but you gotta be careful with it. put a 1/4 inch layer of dacron on before your mono. otherwise, the possibility of crushing the spool or breaking out the ends is very real. best to change to aluminum again.

a 155 is nothing special. used extensively here on the west coast saltwater fishing for calico bass, sand bass, halibut, bonito, barracuda, any of the smaller game species. a great pier reel.

will make an excellent cat reel. pair it up with a 9, 10 or 11 foot surf rod for the cats. one that will handle 25lb line and 4 ounce + weights. perhaps an ugly stick, hmmm?? you DO know what those are, no?

it should have no rust. no steel parts. all plastic and chromed brass. some steel gears inside. might be brass showing through where some chrome may be scratched away. these will turn green rather than rust. at that time, it is worh little on the used reel market.

but no pretty pennies for this reel. just ordinary ones, like those you find in a parking lot...

If GSP somehow could cut to 155, that's Penn's territory. Sub in 2. Unfortunately, since I don't think that's physically possible, if BJ went up to 170 for the match up to be feasible, I think GSP would take him via TKO in the second or third round.

im a fan of both first off but theres no way gsp could get down to 155 and retain his strength so bj would have to move back up and now that his cardio seems to be top notch i dont think theres a fighter in either the 155 or 170 weight class that can compete with him . the true test would be for him to add the weight in muscle and stay fit.

Well I just checked eBay and they go from around 25-30$ and you can't cast with that that's kinda like a trolling or boat fudging reel like my Penn 60 long beach that is a great reel though for flats and blues it's not bad for saltwater too it probably has around 15 pounds of drag on it but I'm not sure probably around that level its one of the vintage penns they have quite of a big market for them I suggest you keep it and spray some clear coat on or something so it won't rust so keep it clean and rust free and you could get some money out of it

    Tight lines!

Source(s): A.k As a little tip I recommend you open it up and grease it cause I'm sure no ones gonna clean it up at a fleet market I did the same with my Penn 60 long beach one thing I did was sand down all the nickle plated brass so It would show the brass it looks much better that way but I'm using it for myself I wouldn't do that if I were to sell it
