Thank God that we had English founding fathers create our constitution because they knew first hand what it meant not to be able to defend ones country, home, and person....I can guarantee that nothing like this will happen in the USA (unless its a liberal city with gun laws and high crime). The store and home owners would be able to defend there person and there property and the felons and street thugs would think twice about looting and/or breaking into the home/business.

Any lawful citizen with a firearm is the best way to prevent crime. A lawful citizen is not a criminal, but now the criminals have free reign and the lawful citizen can do nothing. It was just a matter of time until something like this occurred.

Wow, there are a lot of sheep out there. First off, we will never know how things would have turned out, if the good citizens of the UK were not stripped of their self-defense rights. For a person to believe that there would be hundreds, possibly thousands, of more deaths, given guns were legal requires a belief that most people are evil, because this assumes that people want to kill innocent people. Truth is, the common person doesn't have a problem burning down buildings and vandalizing random things when others are doing it, but I won't believe for a second the average person would choose to kill just because they have a gun.

Look at the Los Angeles (Rodney King ) riots of CA, U.S. There were around 60 deaths. Yes, this is more than 5, but not much more in comparison. Keep in mind we are the people with the constitution guaranteeing us the right to bear arms, and massive deaths didn't result. Also consider that a portion of these deaths resulted in law abiding citizens protecting their life and/or property. Maybe less property damage would have resulted if law abiding citizens in the UK had arms to protect themselves.

The bottom line is this: innocent people die every single day for all kinds of reasons. No matter what laws exist, people will die. I will not be a defenseless coward who gives up my firearms. When things are all said in done, you are the only sure bet for protection for yourself and for your family. When seconds matter, the police are minutes away, and the cameras, laws, and anti-freedom doctrines are defenseless to help you and your loved ones. Ask the Jews how they feel about having no firearms to protect themselves and their family. They were forcibly removed from their homes, caged like animals, and exterminated by evil military, policeman, and politicians of their own government. I guarantee you they wish they didn't give up their firearms. Riots will continue to happen all over the world as things get worse, you better rely on yourself for protection, or get ready to be a slave.

Giving up freedom? What the hell are you talking about? What on earth does freedom have to do with not having a gun? And the right to self defence? I can still depend myself with other tools, I don't need nor want a gun to do that.

Only an American makes statements such as that - they're so blinded by this 'constitutional right to bear arms' that is considered backward and uncivilised by most other countries.

These rioting mobs need to be shot into with bird-shot and if that doesn't do the trick, then buckshot. These riots could be shut down in hours. If you shoot into a mob, shoot the street just a few feet in front of the herd. Hitting the street with the pattern causes it to spray really wide -- people's legs get cut-up, but they are not killed.

This would be a million times worse if guns were easily available enough that these people could get their hands on them.
