Was Nadal's loss to Dodig the worst of his career?

I can't remember Rafa losing to so lowly ranked an opponent in such an early round, can you? Has he ever lost to a lower ranked player than Dodig before (in the past 6 years)? He's been so incredibly consistent and focused that this loss is an absolute shocker.

I wouldn't consider it his worst loss since Dodig played a heck of a match winning it out with a huge serve in the two tiebreaks. I was very shocked myself at the loss especially considering how uncommon it is for Nadal to lose against a non-top ten player. I went ahead and back tracked the last 6 years for you and since you asked, this is strictly based on ATP ranking. (Keep in mind Dodig is currently ranked 41)

In 2007, Nadal lost to Nicolas Mahut at the London Queens Club, Mahut went into the tournament ranked 106. Though this was in the quarterfinals and not as early as his loss to Dodig. Prior to that he lost to Giles Muller in the second round of Wimbledon which was a big upset even in June of 2005 since Muller went into Wimbledon ranked 69th. However, this was six years and 1 1/2 months ago.

So all in all, the Dodig match wasn't his worst loss in the last 6 years either in ATP rankings or in play itself. Though I think we can all agree this was a huge loss for Nadal. I'm sure (at least I hope) he'll bounce back in a couple weeks.

Yeah, im pretty sure that he'll bounce back at the us open as well although hard courts arent his best surface though. he did win it last year i think though
