Where to stay in Paris for 6 nights in mid-September?
Myself and my fiance are going to Paris for 6 nights and we would like a hotel in a decent area. We'll be arriving by train via London and we intend on walking as our primary mode of transport (transit from the station may be a requirement!).
We would like something near cafe's and as a bonus near shops and with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
We are willing to spend between 100-150 Euro a night ($100-$200 Canadian).
We are able to go up another 50 Euros a night if need be to get a good area.
As well I should have specified which area of Paris we should stay in, as opposed to a specific hotel (though a hotel recommendation is a real bonus and appreciated).

Thé hôtel d'Albion is nice, well situated on the 8th district which is central, safe and smart.

One of The best places in Paris where you can stay is Saint Louis Island, a tiny romantic Island in The heart of Paris, 5' walk to Notre Dame Cathedral. There's a 3 stars hôtel, Le Lutece
http://www.paris-hotel-lutece.com/ Check The rates. At St. Louis Island there are many nice cafes, restaurants and you're walking distance to the Louvre, Orsay and to St Germain des près area, one of the nicest of Paris. To go to St Germain you can also take bus 86, about 2 stops from the island.
République square is not a nice area, you need to take the tube to go anywhere. Most of the syndicates March take place at this square and in Paris you have strikes or marchs every 2 days which means traffic jams and problems.

Alas, not every part of Paris has a view of the Eiffel Tower, especially at the low price you'd like to pay. However, the rest of your criteria is easily met by the very friendly, very cozy, clean and charming Hotel du Nord on Rue Albert Thomas right off the Place de la Republique. The square has a major Métro stop, so you can easily get to the neighborhood by public transit. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the Métro. We like to wak, too, and enjoyed a stroll (it was a bit long, but easy) to Pere LaChaise Cemetery, and down to the Seine at the Hotel de Ville, from which it's a five-minute walk to Notre Dame. There are scores of restaurants around Place da la Republique, and several nice little cafés in the area, plus a fabulous bakery right on the corner near the hotel. Here's the du Nord's website: www.hoteldunord-leparivelo.com/. Have a great time in lovely Paris! Tell Laurent at the hotel I said hi, and ruffle the ears of Pluto, the official lobby dog, for me!
