i'm looking at law schools...?
I want, so badly, to go to law school but don't know which one. I know i have to take the LSAT first. I was looking and saw a bunch of schools and don't know which to set my sights on. their is the 1st tier and the 2 tier. the school im most interested in is the 2 tier group. how much of a difference does it make between tiers/schools? obviously HARVARD and Stanford are great but...

Warning> Jobs in the field of Law are drying up fast!! This no longer is a good field to invest time and/or money into. This is a SHRINKING, crumbling, and dying vocational field. Many, many reasons. We simply already have way too many Legal Professionals - we just have an absolute glut!! ("Legal Professionals" includes, but is not limited to: Attorneys/Lawyers, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Bailiffs, Court Reporters, etc, etc) For example: Sites like legalzoom.com have taken away work that many small-time attorneys/lawyers would do/used to do.
There are more attorneys than there are legal employment positions. We simply already have way too many Legal Professionals. AND the legal profession is dramatically changing: it is in absolute CRISIS! And, every year, more and more people graduate from law school, but there are fewer and fewer jobs. Even the largest and most reputable law firms are experiencing unprecedented cutbacks. I don't expect the situation to improve in the coming years.....Even Associate Justice Antonin Scalia (who served on the U.S. Supreme Court for more than 20 years) says there are too many lawyers. Now... the law schools know this, but they won't tell you the truth >that the job market/economy is just SATURATED with way too many Legal Professionals. Instead the schools will feed you a fairytale and will LIE to you. The root of the problem is we already have too many law schools. We are STILL in a Recession, and the schools are fighting for their own survival - they will tell students anything to get to the students' money. (Which is why they won't tell you the truth about the job market for the field of Law.) And these schools continue to recruit and churn out even more graduates.............Remember>>> law schools are BUSINESSES - their TOP concern is making money for themselves. Law schools are cash cows.
>>>>>THE #1 MOST IMPORTANT THING (and I can't stress this enough>>>): You ESPECIALLY have to beware of the BOGUS, INFLATED law school salary/job stats given out by >law schools< (AND by the U.S. Bureau of Labor)!!***<<<<<

If you want a JOB when you are done with your studies, consider and look into the fields of: >>>Healthcare<<<, Information Technology, Law ENFORCEMENT, environmentalism, emergency planning, accounting, education, entertainment, utilities, home-car-commercial-industrial repairs, vice industries, clergy, and/or debt collection. I spoke to a career counselor from Jobs and Family Services, and HE told me that these areas are where the jobs are, and future job opportunities/availability....and scholarships.
Good luck.
(This is based on my current knowledge, information, belief, and life experiences. This was intended as personal opinion, and not intended to be used as legal advice. Please be careful and do your research.<<< You DID ask the question here on Y/A. I am just trying to help you.)
Source(s): life have actually worked in the field of Law for twelve years started at the very bottom rung as a mailclerk and clawed my way up now actually am a CURRENT employee of a law school, so I KNOW and see (too much?!?) don't have time to watch those TV law shows - the couple that I did watch weren't realistic, at all TV glamorizes the field of Law - Reminder: TV is FICTION!!! - do your research first! - the field of Law is actually a lot of paperwork and politics - and law school is VERY expensive, so know what you are getting into wish someone would have warned ME sooner so now I TRY to warn and help others (that actually want to know, will listen and not get defensive) I am simply tired of watching students getting ripped off by law schools so many students have come to me- upset because they could not find employment- I am just trying to warn as many as I can, and trying to fulfill a promise I am answering you in good faith. - sitcpsitcbLv 710 years ago
This is not the kind of question that can be answered well here.
If you are interested in corporate law and/or making substantial money after you graduate, you need to attend a T14 school - and that's not even a guarantee, it just gives you a chance.
For other types of law, it just depends. Sometimes attending the top law school in the city where you wish to practice is the best option. Sometimes the difference between a school ranked 20-30 and a school ranked 40-50 is substantial. Sometimes it doesn't matter at all.
You need to do your research - and Y!A does not count as research. It is very, very difficult to find a job as a lawyer these days. Many law students have absolutely incredible student loan payments. There are many disreputable practices regarding financial aid and job reporting practiced by law schools at all levels, though it is generally worse at the less well regarded schools. You need to go into this entire process with your eyes wide open and with a REALISTIC plan for 1) paying off any law school loans you'll have and 2) finding a non-legal job. Assume you'll be unemployed when you graduate from law school.

General Tip: Take the LSAT, then look at which schools you have a realistic chance of getting into (they all publish their admission statistics on their websites). If you can get into one of the top 20 or so schools, it's probably worth going if you can get a little scholarship money to help out. Jobs are scarce, but going to one of those schools will put you in the running and insure that you at least have a shot. Once you're out of that range though, you should probably only go if you can get a full-ride scholarship from the school in question or if you can go to a state school at state tuition rates that happens to be the best law school in that state and doesn't face a lot of competition from schools in the next state over. For example, UW in Washington is a good call if you want to practice there as its the best school in the region and is a state school; UK in Kentucky is a bad call because of its proximity to Vanderbilt, Wash U, Notre Dame, and a few other good schools).
The reality here is that there are more people graduating from law school than there are jobs, and those jobs filter up to the best candidates from the best schools. Unlike many other professions, in the law, it really does matter where you go to school

Poli Sci isn't troublesome. Poli Sci and employing to regulation college isn't something particular. As a poli sci considerable, you are able to nicely be screwed popping out of regulation college in case you do no longer circulate to a solid regulation college. you purely get intense earnings in case you graduate from the superb of your type, went to between the superb 14 regulation faculties, or are an Engineering/technology considerable.
