During these unsettling times, will LGBT issues take a back seat to economy in the upcoming 2012 US election?
I'm not a US citizen but the US politics has been really an interesting subject for me as long as I remember, I’ve been watching the stock market on a wild rollercoaster ride this week, I also witness the United States’s credit rating downgraded for the first time in history, as the US government try to get a handle on the country’s skyrocketing debt. With these distressing developments, I must say that I was enthusiastic to say the least with the 2012 Republican Presidential debate in Iowa couple of days ago, and surprisingly enough I found the solutions offered by Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul to be quite commendable. Up to the point that I agree with Michael Cole-Schwartz's statement that with these overwhelming economic struggles, it would be a little out of touch if LGBT community pick their leader solely based on whether we could get married or not.
The question is; as an LGBT person, will you elect a candidate whose economic solutions are considerably more assuring, despite their opposition to LGBT social movements?

I have never voted on a politician based solely on whether or not they believed in my right to marry.
I've always looked to the person that seems to have the most balanced leanings when it comes to economy and security.
I definitely think LGBT issues will lose some traction during this election cycle, as our country and politicians face our greatest challenges since the great depression.

Considering the bitter partisanship in Washington, even the economy is taking a back seat to pre-election posturing for 2012 elections. LGBT is totally off the radar. Expect some token comments from the Democrats trying to get LGBT votes, After the election, expect to be ignored for another election cycle. Plus ca change.

I think that the sad reality I dont want to believe but do, is that it will. I think our country has much bigger problems than LGBT issues although I DO think this is a big matter that NEEDS to be resolved soon- I honestly dont think we have the time to handle it now. First we have to fix our economy, employ the jobless and bring our troops home. I think that might be addressed first although I however would love to have someone who supports homosexuality, I don't think that would be first on every americans mind when election time comes around. I really do wish it would be though, this election and the next WILL greatly impact my generations life and decision making so I hope LGBT issues as well as the american dream/economic troubles gets the attention they deserve : )

Bearing in mind I'm Canadian... *is laughing at the notion that Michele Bachmann is going to help the economy in any way*
Yeah... not going to happen. The Republican's plan consistently seems to be cutting taxes without cutting spending enough to break even, let alone decrease the deficit.

I would vote for a Democrat who didn't support marriage equality before I would vote for a Republican who did support us.
The Republicans and Libertarians support only one agenda: institutionalized greed. Their thoughts on marriage equality are irrelevant when it comes to the general election.

Probably not if i can help it...since there is such a choice in candidates I would want to support someone who has all my concerns taken to heart
