Why did IDF attack a squad of Palestinian terrorists Monday night?

[quote]

"Aircraft belonging to the Israeli Air Force attacked overnight Monday four terror targets in the Gaza Strip.

"The IDF Spokesperson added that IDF forces identified a squad of [Palestinian] terrorists as they were preparing to fire mortars into Israeli territory. The IAF managed to foil the attack, firing at the squad and directly hitting its members.

"Over the past several weeks, there has been a “cat-and-mouse game” in which terrorists fire rockets or missiles at Israeli territory (such as the Grad attack on Kiryat Gat two weeks ago), and the IDF responds by firing at terror targets in Gaza.

"Medical sources in Gaza claimed that one person was killed and four others were wounded in Monday night's IDF attacks. The claims were made in a conversation with the Reuters news agency following the attacks."

[end quote]

Question: What gives Israel the right to attack Palestinian terrorists BEFORE they can launch their GRAD missiles into Israeli cities?

Update 2:

Actually, no, it's NOT a war. If it were a war, it would be over already and Israel would be moving in to their new Mediteranean villas in what used to be terrorist occupied Gaza.

In reality, what it is is terror attacks from Gaza which Israel relatiates to, and which retaliations Gaza and their allies complain about because Israel's retaliations tend to be so much more deadly to the Gaza terrorists than Gaza's unprovoked attacks on civilians are on Israeli school buses and Israeli pizza shops and Jewish wedding parties.

So, back to the real world, where does Israel get off killing innocent Palestinian terrorists, even IF they had already carried out successful, if ineffective, attacks earlier in the day?

Update 3:

And another thing, why is Israel targetting the terrorists while the Palestinian terrorists are only attacking civilians or "whoever" is down range of the unguided Palestinian GRAD and Katyusha missiles at random? Does Israel think that by getting rid of the terrorists - the ones launching the missiles - that the Palestinians will have to eventually stop killing innocent Israelis? NEVER! The Palestinians are raising a new batch of terrorists in Palestinian schools on a daily basis, so this will go on for as long as the Palestinian people want their own children to be prematurely dead.

So THERE, Israel!

But at least all will know why this DID devolve into war because Israel keeps killing Palestinian terrorists who are just trying to murder innocent Israelis. Those mean ol' Israelis started it.

It's war.. Hamas knows that could happen. I don't understand what you're trying to prove? It's the bombing of powerplants and schools that the world has a problem with.

Because Israel does not want to be attacked. If you know someone who wanted to hurt you, you would try to stop them, eh?

What's the point in waiting till they destroy your cities and then attacking them after that?

Because they are at war and Israel is trying to kill as many Palestinians as they can.
