Don't know the number of fatalities, but came across this bit of information concerning the Kawasaki ZX-10R.
"According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, The ZX-10R has the highest theft and damage loss claim rate of any registered motorcycle."
"The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, a 1,000 cc supersport, topped the worst list, with collision losses more than 9 times the average. Five of the 10 motorcycles with the highest overall losses had engine displacements of 1,000 cc or larger."

Single vehicle accidents involving motorcycles are frequently due to excessive speed, the Cub (which comes in several displacements) is not that fast – not that it is not capable of inappropriate speed for some conditions.
In multiple vehicle accidents there are too many factors to authoritatively give an overwhelming cause, but speed has to be one of the causes.
Saying that, the more modern and more powerful bikes do have better suspension and braking, if you go back a few decades (when motorcycling was far more popular) you are more likely to find a model which was involved in more fatal accidents than others, probably around the era that engines were far too powerful for their tyres, suspension, brakes and frames.

the make and model of bike isn't nearly as good of an indicator as the experience and sobriety (or lack thereof) of the rider.
Statistically, riding a motorcycle is a lot like being a baby sea turtle - if you can make it past that first year, you've probably got a lot of accident-free years ahead of you.
Now that said, I would guess that 600cc sport bikes probably have the highest occurrence of accidents per new rider, because they're relatively inexpensive, and people think that they're "small" bikes.
In the racing community, 600's are "middleweights," and while the 1991 Honda Hurricane (in my opinion, the bike that started the sportbike craze in America) only put out around 85 horsepower, modern 600's are much lighter, have fuel injection, and pump out upwards of 120 horsepower now.
less weight and more power means that they WILL wheelie by accident, and are totally capable of spinning the rear tire and inducing a rear-wheel slide. today's 600's are MUCH faster than most new riders realize. As a result, I would speculate that a lot of people buy them thinking they're more suited for beginners than they really are.
Source(s): I race an '03 600RR, and there are numerous ways I would have crashed if I'd learned on it when I first started riding. And my bike's coming up on 10 years old. Showroom new bikes (i.e. financed) are only getting more powerful. - ?Lv 710 years ago
I would say the 'Cubs'.
Why? coz there are more 'cubs' on the road than a CBR 600 or a Hayabusa
Anyway, anyone with a CBR 600 or a Hayabusa would be extra careful when riding such expensive bikes while a 'cub' is more for the mass market.

Cruisers because there are so many of them and they are mostly ridden by noobs who are more into fashion than riding motorcycles. But it looks like it is Darwin at work and the squids are earnestly eliminating themselves from the gene pool. So more people die on crusiers because there are more of them, but squids are doing way more than their share of dieing.
>>>>Sport bikes made up less than 10 percent of registered motorcycles in 2005 but accounted for over 25 percent of rider deaths. Super sport bikes are built on racing platforms but modified for the highway and sold to consumers. They are very lightweight and have powerful engines. For example, a 2006 model Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R produces 111 horsepower and weighs 404 pounds. In contrast, the 2006 model Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide produces 65 horsepower and weighs 788 pounds.
Around here if someone has a head on in the center lane with an inattentive auto it was a middle aged noob reacting way too slow on a crusier, if someone plows into a guardrail at 2 in the morning without a helmet it was a squid on a sportbike.

the actual bike is not usually an issue..
back in the old days some of the jap bikes came straight from the factory with built in problems that caused or contributed to a few accidents...
new riders would be up there with the most fatalities...& I don't think the type of bike..(sports cruiser) matters a whole lot.... 100MPH on a sports bike happens a lot faster than on a cruiser... but they do stop quicker & are lighter than cruisers.. so its win on the swings lose on the roundabouts...
single vehicle accidents are not high in the stats for killing riders... falling off doesn't hurt usually.... its the sudden stop of hitting a car, truck, bus, tree, that does the damage..

600cc sport-bikes are over-represented by fatalities. This is not because of any problem with the bikes. It is because a lot of novice riders buy them, thinking that they look cool, and that they can't get into trouble with "only" 600cc's.
