Internet Explorer Not Responding?

My PC (windows XP) seems to have picked up a bug or a virus. Since today, whenever I try to load internet explorer, it goes into "not responding" mode and the CPU usage goes up to between 80% - 95%. I have MacAfee installed but it can't seem to find anything. The modem and internet connection ar fine as I'm connected via a wi fi laptop at the moment.

Any ideas ?

Update:

Thanks for responses so far but please read the following :

(1) CTR ALT DEL does shut down IE but when I attempt to re-load, it just goes into non responding again...being doing this for over 2 hours.

(2) No internet access so can't download update anything let alone new web browser.

(3) Tried system retore but its disabled as hard disk space is too low

If you're sure that a virus has been affecting your computer, just download the remover or use Avira or AVG to remove the virus since both Antivirus are free and has a better sensitivity to detect any viruses.

Or just update the McAfee if it is possible.
