okay, i feel like this is a stupid question, but im only 15, give me some slack. anyway. i'm doing history homework on the history of Ireland and the Catholics and protestants. i just want to know what a Republican is and a unionist is. and which ones mostly catholic and which ones mostly protestant. please help? im stuck :/ lol thanks! ;) i really appreciate it x

Unionists - protestants and so called because they support the union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Republicans - favour independence from Britain/amalgamation with the Irish Republic. They are mostly catholic.
