What are some historic places in Honolulu?

I'm going to Honolulu in October. I'm really into history. Anybody know of some good historical places around Honolulu? I know about Pearl Harbor and the Iolani Palace, but I'm looking to see some other historic or culturally significant places around Honolulu and Oahu. Thanks.

One of the first places you need to check out is the Bishop Museum. They are one of the top rated museums in the country and have thousands of items in their collections. http://www.bishopmuseum.org/visitors/visitors.html

You can also visit the Hawaii Plantation Village in Waipahu, for some background on the sugar plantations:

The Hawaiiweb.com site has a few historical sites listed on this page:

But, if you take your time and go thru the Bishop Museum website, I think you'll find the information that you're wanting plus get a good idea of the place before you even leave home.

If you are serious about culturally significant places, there are many on the island of Oahu.

TheBus website at http://thebus.org/pop/pop.asp has links to cultural and historic attractions. Check the links to the web sites for more info.

Check the local event calendars such as this one: http://www.staradvertiser.com/features/calendars/2...

For example, it lists an event coming up this Saturday at Waimea Valley Park, a significant historic site:

Pulama ‘o Waimea: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Waimea Valley. Annual rededication celebration with family activities, arts and crafts, guided walks, cultural and craft vendors, entertainment, botanical plant sale, food and more. General admission fees apply. Call 638-7766 or visit www.waimeavalley.net.

The calendars for October may be available starting in Sept.

Honolulu was the site of a world indigenous peoples' health gathering in 2010. There are many blogs and sites about the event: http://hosw.com/ and the cultural tours info gives you a brief overview of what is available. You may have some trouble figuring out where the particular sites are, but try a good general walking tour or historic sites of Honolulu guide. Here's a blog about it:

Ignore the part about Kahoolawe, it's another island and access is extremely restricted.

Home to the State Capitol, Honolulu may be the vivid epicentre of Hawaii and an area worth visit, as you will see with hotelbye . In Honolulu you'll find everything from old landmarks and treasured monuments to world-class shopping and a flourishing arts and tradition scene. Home to the majority of Oahu's population, the vast town of Honolulu develops throughout the south-eastern shores of Oahu, from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point, encompassing world famous Waikiki. Pearl Harbor is among Honolulu's greatest tourist attractions. Although it is home to the Navy's Pacific Fleet, guests can have a visit to start to see the USS Arizona Memorial, and the USS Missouri.
